THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WESTLAKE, FLORIDA, IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FROM THOSE RESIDENTS INTERESTED IN SERVING ON THE FOLLOWING BOARD/COMMITTEE:
Audit Selection Committee
Four (4) Audit Selection Committee Member Positions Available
The City of Westlake is seeking qualified residents interested in serving on the Audit Selection Committee. The Committee plays an important role in supporting the City’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound financial management by assisting the City Council in the selection of an independent auditing firm.
The City is currently accepting applications to fill four (4) committee vacancies.
Qualified residents interested in serving their community are encouraged to apply.
Ideal candidates should have:
- An interest in government transparency and accountability
- A commitment to responsible financial oversight
- A willingness to review information and participate in public meetings
- An interest in supporting the City’s financial stewardship efforts
Professional experience in finance, accounting, business, government, or related fields is beneficial but not required.
Mission & Purpose
The Audit Selection Committee is established pursuant to Section 218.391, Florida Statutes, which requires local governmental entities to establish an auditor selection committee prior to entering into a contract for annual financial audit services.
The primary purpose of the Committee is to assist the City Council in selecting a qualified certified public accounting firm to conduct the City’s annual financial audit. The Committee supports a fair, objective, and transparent selection process by evaluating qualified firms based on established criteria, including experience, qualifications, ability to provide required services, and other factors relevant to the City’s auditing needs.
The Committee may also serve in an advisory capacity for additional audit oversight responsibilities as determined by the City Council.
Responsibilities
The Audit Selection Committee will:
- Establish evaluation criteria for reviewing audit service proposals.
- Review and evaluate proposals submitted by qualified auditing firms.
- Consider qualifications, experience, technical capabilities, and ability to perform required services.
- Rank qualified firms in order of preference.
- Provide recommendations to the City Council for final consideration and contract negotiations.
- Support a transparent and accountable auditor selection process.
The Committee will not select the City’s auditor. Final approval of the auditor selection and contract remains the responsibility of the City Council.
