ROAD CLOSURE & TRAFFIC ADVISORY

3rd Annual Westlake 5K Run/Walk — Saturday, September 12

WESTLAKE, FL — The City of Westlake is excited to welcome residents, families, runners, walkers, and community members to the 3rd Annual Westlake 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 12, 2026, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

As the community comes together for this annual celebration of health, wellness, and community connection, residents should be aware that temporary road closures and traffic detours will be in place from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to accommodate the race route and help ensure the safety of participants, motorists, and pedestrians.

5K Race Route

The Westlake 5K Run/Walk will begin at the intersection of Persimmon Boulevard and Ilex Way. From the starting point, participants will:

  • Proceed south on Ilex Way;
  • Continue down Waters Edge Drive;
  • Travel south along the walking path on Seminole Pratt Whitney Road;
  • Continue through the Westlake Fitness Trail;
  • Exit the Fitness Trail onto Green Lane; and
  • Proceed north on Ilex Way toward the finish area.

Residents and motorists should be aware that portions of this route will be closed or subject to traffic modifications during the event. Please follow all posted signage, barricades, and directions from law enforcement and traffic-control personnel.

Plan Ahead: Road Closures and Detours

Residents traveling through or in the vicinity of the race route are encouraged to allow additional travel time, plan an alternate route in advance, and follow posted detour signs and directions from law enforcement and traffic-control personnel.

The following closures and traffic modifications will be in effect:

Sky Cove South Development

  • Sand Bar Drive will be CLOSED during the event.
  • Residents should use Coquina Place as the alternate route.

The Terraces Development

  • Grand Terrace Isle will be CLOSED.
  • Residents should use Waters Edge Drive as the alternate route.
  • Please use extreme caution when traveling on Waters Edge Drive, as one lane will accommodate both eastbound and westbound traffic. Police will be assisting with traffic flow in this area.

Ilex Way

  • Ilex Way will be closed to through traffic during the race.
  • There will be no thru traffic through the closure area.
  • Green Lane and Ilex Way will also be closed as part of the race traffic plan.
  • Ilex Way south of Persimmon Boulevard will be closed.
  • Motorists should expect additional turn restrictions at approaches to Ilex Way, including no left turns, no right turns, and no through traffic where posted.

The Groves Development

  • Melogold Drive will be closed during the event.
  • Residents may use Canopy Grove Drive as an alternate route.

Please Plan for Delays

The City understands that temporary road closures can affect residents' normal Saturday morning routines. These closures are necessary to provide a safe environment for the participants and volunteers who make the Westlake 5K possible.

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Plan ahead and allow extra time for travel.
  • Use the designated alternate routes.
  • Follow all posted signage and instructions from police officers and traffic-control personnel.
  • Exercise patience and caution when approaching areas affected by the race.
  • Avoid attempting to drive through barricaded or closed areas.
  • Be alert to runners, walkers, volunteers, and event personnel along the race route.

Traffic conditions may change as runners and walkers progress along the course, and roads will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.

A Community Tradition on the Move

Participants of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to take part. Whether you are working toward a personal best, enjoying a morning walk with family and friends, or simply cheering on your neighbors, the event is an opportunity for the community to get outside, get active, and experience Westlake together.

The City appreciates the community's patience, cooperation, and understanding as we work to provide a safe and enjoyable event for everyone.
