Mayor O’Connor Joins Regional Leaders to Champion Literacy at Mayors' Literacy Initiative Luncheon

Westlake, FL — Mayor O’Connor proudly joined fellow municipal leaders on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the Mayors' Literacy Initiative Luncheon, held at the Blume Literacy Center. The event, presented by the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County, the Palm Beach County League of Cities, and Comcast, celebrated the ongoing regional commitment to promoting literacy across all age groups.

The luncheon brought together city officials, educators, and community stakeholders to highlight the critical role of reading and literacy in building stronger, more connected communities. A special highlight of the event was guest speaker and author Marcus Bridgewater, known for his uplifting and insightful book, See Marcus Grow.

Bridgewater’s message, rooted in personal growth, community uplift, and the nurturing of curiosity and resilience, resonated deeply with attendees. His address emphasized how literacy serves not just as a foundation for academic success, but as a lifelong tool for empowerment and personal development.

“Growth doesn’t come by force, but by creating the right environment,” said Mayor O’Connor.  “That is exactly what we are doing here in Westlake, we are building a place where our community can truly grow and flourish together.”

The Mayors’ Literacy Initiative continues to be a dynamic platform where local governments, civic organizations, and private partners collaborate to support reading initiatives, early childhood education, and lifelong learning throughout Palm Beach County.
